FAQs
Common questions about beginning therapy.
If your question is not here, send me a message and I will answer it.
Is the first consultation really free?
Yes. Your initial consultation is free, with no obligation. I ask what you would like help with, explain how the work happens, and you decide whether to go ahead.
Will I be in control during hypnotherapy?
Yes. Hypnotherapy is not mind control. You remain aware, able to respond, and free to pause or stop at any time.
What are your qualifications?
I hold a First Class Honours degree (BA Hons) in Criminology and Psychology, the Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma (HPD) and the Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy (DCH). I am a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH), the National Board for Hypnotherapy (NBFH) and the National Board for Modern Psychotherapy (NBMP).
How much do sessions cost?
A single session is £54, and blocks of six, eight or twelve sessions are available at a lower cost per session. The full list is on the session fees page.
How do I pay?
I accept cash or bank transfer.
How many sessions will I need?
Every person and situation is different, so I cannot give one number that fits everyone. I talk it through with you at your free initial consultation and suggest what is likely to suit you.
Can sessions take place online?
Yes. I offer online sessions across the UK, as well as in-person sessions in my therapy room in Pontypool.
What can hypnotherapy and solution focused psychotherapy help with?
I work with trauma, fears and phobias, anxiety, stress, confidence, sleep difficulties, stopping smoking and other addictions, weight management, sports performance, menopause, unhelpful habits, religious trauma, life after high-control groups, PTSD, personal growth and feeling stuck.
Can hypnotherapy help me stop smoking?
Yes, stopping smoking is one of the things I work on. I talk with you first about what you want to change, what keeps the habit going, and what needs to feel different for the change to last.
Can hypnotherapy help with weight management?
Weight management can involve habits, emotions, confidence, motivation and your relationship with food. I use hypnotherapy and solution focused psychotherapy to look at the changes you want in a realistic, compassionate way.
Do you work with children and young people?
I have many years of experience in childcare and supporting families. I can discuss age-appropriate therapy for children and young people where it is suitable, safe and consent is in place.
Is everything confidential?
Yes. I treat enquiries and sessions confidentially and professionally, with the usual safeguarding limits that apply if someone is at risk of serious harm.
How do I start?
Book your free initial consultation, or email me at sarah@guidingtherapy.co.uk. A short message with what you would like help with is enough.
If you feel ready to begin, I'd love to hear from you.
Your first consultation is free, with no obligation.
